Description
The observations of CP violation in neutral Kaon decays and more recently in B mesons have validated the CKM mechanism as the dominant source of CP violation in the Standard Model. As the Standard Model theory is CPT invariant, we expect a T violation effect matching the CP violation observables. Despite the large CP violating effect observed in B factories (sin2beta), there has been no direct observation of T violation until recently. In this seminar we shall discuss how the BaBar experiment at SLAC has conducted a new data analysis using entangled B meson pairs and the decay time information, to implement an experiment probing direct T non-invariance. This nonzero result represent the first direct observation of T violation through the exchange of initial and final states in transitions that can only be connected by a T-symmetry transformation, without any experimental connection to CP violation and without any assumption about CPT conservation.
