Description
We present the measurement of the cross section of t-channel single top production in proton-proton collisions at the LHC at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV. We use data collected with the CMS experiment during the year 2010, and amounting to a total integrated luminosity of 36 pb-1.
After a selection optimized for the t-channel mode, two different and complementary analyses have been performed. The first analysis exploits the peculiar angular properties of the signal with a simple and robust procedure. The second approach is based on a multivariate analysis technique that probes the compatibility of the candidate events with the signal model, profiting of the excellent agreement of the CMS simulation with the data.
Both analyses confirm Tevatron's observation of single top, and their combination measures a cross section of 83.6+-30.0 pb which is consistent with the Standard Model prediction.
