Description

The nuclear mass is one of the most fundamental properties of the atomic nucleus and a key observable for studying the evolution of nuclear structure away from stability. In addition to fundamental nuclear physics questions, experimental masses are also important to constrain nucleosynthesis models and to perform weak interaction studies. At the DESIR facility, precision mass spectrometry will be performed using the Penning trap and the MR-ToF techniques. In this talk, I will first give a brief status update on the double Penning trap PIPERADE, which will be installed at GANIL next year. I will then present the physics program planned at DESIR, with a focus on several physics cases presented at the last DESIR call for LOIs.
