Clustering in nuclei: experimental approaches and perspectives

Description

The tendency of objects to organize into correlated structures, commonly referred to as clustering, is a phenomenon observed across a wide variety of many-body systems in nature. Clustering phenomena are also ubiquitously present in the nuclear domain, where they affect multiple properties of nuclear structure and dynamics. Their emergence highlights the role of nucleon-nucleon correlations beyond the independent-particle description of nuclear systems.

This talk will discuss different experimental approaches to the study of clustering in nuclei, starting from selected manifestations of clustering and the observables that can be used to identify and characterize them. Particular emphasis will be given to spectroscopic, decay and reaction studies, with a focus on the experimental opportunities available at GANIL. Recent developments in the use of FAZIA for direct-reaction studies will also be discussed, highlighting new possibilities for investigating cluster structures and related phenomena in light nuclei.
