Séminaires du DPhP: Probing the Frontiers of QED and QCD in Ultraperipheral Pb+Pb Collisions with ATLAS Using LHC Run 3 Data

CEA Paris-Saclay
Ultraperipheral collisions (UPCs) of heavy ions at the LHC offer a unique environment to study photon-induced processes at unprecedented energies. Leveraging the intense electromagnetic fields in Pb+Pb UPCs, the ATLAS experiment has recently explored both Quantum Electrodynamics (QED) and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) in extreme regimes. This talk presents new results on the coherent photoproduction of J/ψ mesons, providing sensitive probes of the nuclear gluon distribution at low Bjorken-x, and offering constraints on models of nuclear shadowing and saturation. In parallel, a dedicated search for magnetic monopoles in UPCs sets world-leading limits on monopole production in ultrarelativistic heavy-ion environments.
