Description
I will present recent results on perturbative multi-loop computations applied to the theory of elastic flat membranes subject to small thermal fluctuations. This model has applications across a wide range of systems, including graphene, biological cell membranes, branes in string theory, or even everyday sheets of paper! It also offers an excellent opportunity to (re)introduce perturbative field theory, Feynman diagrams and the renormalization group in an intuitive way, using techniques and software originally developed for high-energy physics. The physical results show remarkably good convergence up to four loops and agree well with both experimental data and numerical simulations. These studies pave the way for tackling more complex models, such as those involving quantum or disorder effects.
