The Cherenkov Telescope Array (CTA) will be the next-generation Cherenkov observatory, playing a key role in gamma-ray astronomy. It will feature two sites (North and South) to enable full-sky observation and will be the first Cherenkov observatory to make its data publicly accessible.
Construction on the northern site has already begun with the first Large Size Telescope (LST-1). With a 23-meter diameter mirror and a weight of 103 tons, LST-1 is designed to observe transient objects. The initial results from this instrument will be presented during this seminar.
Finally, I will discuss the scientific advantages of establishing a network of telescopes and provide updates on the construction of additional LSTs, as a total of four LSTs will be built.
