    • Presentation: Impacts of growing plant cells at controlled internal pressure: Antonio Mosciatti

A plant’s abilities to produce force is limited: plant cells only have control over their internal pressure. Yet this single mechanism is behind anything that a plant does – from digging its roots through the ground to attaching itself to a support. We propose an experimental setup to study the forces that drive plant cell growth. Although turgor can in certain conditions regulate cell wall growth through Lockhart’s law, it falls short to explain more complex behaviours of the plant cell. The goal is to devise a global description of cell mechanics where turgor pressure is involved, as to later identify the active regulation of the cell when facing different stimuli.
