Description
Based on a new vision of the detection of radio transient associated to extensive air showers induced by ultra high energy cosmic rays, the experimental apparatus CODALEMA is in operation. Its performances allows for the first time to study, on a event by event basis, the radio-signal features.
The main features of this new technique will be presented. Sampled along a 600 meters axis, EAS electric field characteristics (depending on the arrival direction, the core position and probably primary energy particle) will be discussed within limitations due to the actual extension of the device. The measured rate, of about 1 event per day, corresponds to an energy threshold around 5.1016 eV associated to an electric field ground spread of about 200 m FWHM.
The results entitle to consider the perspectives offered by the present experimental design for radio detection of UHECR at a larger scale. Possible developments in the field of radio-astronomy, neutrinos detection, atmospheric transients or tracking of anthropic signals will be also approached.
