Description

Neutron cross section data are essential observables in the study of nuclear interactions and play a fundamental role in numerous applications, ranging from energy production to medicine. Except for a few light nuclei, however, neutron cross sections cannot be calculated from first principles but must be experimentally determined. The aim of the seminar is to provide an overview of experimental methods and challenges associated with producing accurate and reliable data for theoretical models and advanced technologies. For this, the details will be presented of the development of three distinct setups for the measurement of neutron elastic scattering, neutron-induced fission, and neutron-induced charged particle emission in the fast and high-energy neutron range.
