Behavior is usually studied at the individual scale, particularly using biologging approaches. However, collective behaviors are observed in virtually all taxa, and their biological significance remains often speculative. In this presentation, I will show how we can bridge this gap, using direct observation, biologging techniques, and radar technology.
I will show how collective behaviors in seabirds are fundamental to their lifestyles and I will give some similar insights in vultures, as a way to discuss on the evolution of collective behaviors and extrapolate on its generalization.
