Proton therapy is a method of particle therapy that uses a beam of protons to irradiate deep-seated tumours. Unlike other forms of radiotherapy, it offers greater precision in dose deposition and cancer treatment. Dose deposition occurs mainly at the end of the proton path and there is virtually no energy deposition before that.
However, the accuracy of dose deposition is limited by...

During a cancer treatment with particle therapy (heavy ion or proton beam), nuclear reactions of the primary beam with the targeted volume need to be quantified in order to calculate exactly the dose received by the patient. Particle therapy permits, compared to therapy using X-rays, to deliver a more conformal dose to the tumor while sparing healthy tissues. However, the primary beam and...

"Microbeam radiation therapy (MRT) is a treatment modality based on spatial fractionation of synchrotron generated x-rays into parallel, high dose, microbeams of a few microns width. MRT leads to high dose gradients replicated at a micrometric scale inside the irradiation field to induce the dose-volume effect. Promising preclinical results of MRT on brain tumors and epilepsy encourage its...
