Wiki-edit-a-thon

Europe/Paris
Live on Zoom
Description

Recent studies show that only 19.2% of Wikipedia biography pages are dedicated to the biographies of women. This number gets significantly lower for women in STEM (please follow the link here for more information). One way to impact these statistics is to create new pages about female scientists who are doing exceptional work but remain largely unknown.

Join us on the 5th and 6th of April, from 14.00 to 17.00, for the first Wikipedia edit-a-thon organised by the new Diversity Network Paris (DNP): a two-afternoon hackathon-like event live on Zoom, where you will be able to edit the profiles of a portfolio of outstanding female scientists that will be proposed to you.

The event will be led by Marina Corradini.

Marina Corradini. IPGP alumna and Communication and dissemination expert in the Earth Sciences department of the Barcelona Supercomputing Centre, Marina Corradini has extensive experience in participating in and leading edit-a-thon events on Wikipedia.

Participants will be presented with a list of wikipedia biographies that need improvements. Each participant will pick the biography that they prefer and will start searching for references and doing minor edits. For this, every participant will need a wiki-editor account and a laptop. You can write in the language that you feel most comfortable with. We will ask participants to sign up to Wikipedia and make sure they use their laptop during the entire event.
