IPhU seminar: Witnesses of non-classicality beyond quantum theory

par Dr Chiara Marletto (Oxford)

Europe/Paris
Description

The theory of quantum computation has brought us rapid
technological developments, together with remarkable improvements in
how we understand quantum theory.
I will describe the foundations of a programme to extend the quantum
theory of computation beyond quantum theory itself, and explain a
recent application of this new approach to the problem of testing
quantum effects in gravity.

Chiara Marletto is a quantum physicist at the university of Oxford and a research fellow of Wolfson College, Oxford. After her Master’s degree in Politecnico di Torino, she obtained a DPhil in Oxford under the supervision of Artur Ekert. Her research is at the foundations of quantum theory and quantum information theory; she has also been developing a generalisation of quantum information, constructor theory, in collaboration with David Deutsch. She published a popular science book in 2021, "The Science of Can and Can’t", which is inspired by her research on these topics.
