    • 16:00 17:00
      Discussion 1h
      • Nico, Marjolein, Stefano, Sara, Enrique, Stelios, Dave, Gareth, John, Klaas, James P., James C.
      • Dave led a discussion on metadata.
        • Believes the metadata model he has proposed is sufficient to all use cases expressed.
        • All the information is captured in the WP5 wiki... but to the non-initiate, it's not obvious what's what.
        • Agreed that Dave & John should collaborate to compile this material and provide it to WP3.
      • Dave led a discussion on use cases.
        • Identified six in total.
        • We discussed three with regard to immediate/short-term goals.
          • Jupyter notebooks
          • Binder/Jupyter notebooks
          • Containerized applications.
        • Discussion of the relationship between the first two categories: how are Jupyter notebooks different from the Binder case?
          • Notebooks is intended to capture just the bare notebooks, with no information about their environment.
          • Lacking information about the environment means that this notebooks cannot be reproducible; not clear they will be available through OSSR (in the long term, at least, even if some of them are now).
          • Agreed to rule these “metadata-unencumbered” notebooks out of scope for now.
        • Containerized applications contains at least three separate classes of application: command line (container accessed by e.g. SSH), graphical (container accessed by e.g. VNC), web (container accessed by HTTP).
          • Although the machinery for launching and managing these might be similar, the underlying applications are quite different.
          • Agreed to focus on graphical applications for now.
      • Stelios led a discussion on next steps.
        • Captured on this board.
        • Action on all to add their name / initials next to the “D.N” deliverables that they are interested in participating in.
