How Gaia unveils the formation and evolution of the Milky Way

The Gaia satellite is scanning the sky since 2014, harvesting an unprecedented amount of astrometric, photometric and radial velocity data. The second Gaia catalogue, released in 2018, is the first milestone providing parallaxes for more than 1.3 billion objects. I'll briefly present the status of the mission and then I’ll go through some of the most important scientific results published over the past year.
