Ksenia Gasnikova defended her thesis about the measurement of W- and Z-boson production cross sections with the ATLAS detector in 2017. After the PhD at DESY, she stayed one more year in Hamburg to work as a Research Data Scientist at Beiersdorf, a German personal-care company. Since 2019, she works in the Paris area as a Postdoctoral researcher at Inria, the French research institute for digital sciences.
Data science is not only a rapidly evolving interdisciplinary field applicable both in research and industry, but also a very attractive field to particle- and astrophysicists as data analysis is a big portion of the day-to-day work in large experimental collaborations. Drawing from her experience in particle physics and data science from both a commercial and academic perspective, Ksenia will explain us what to keep in mind when considering a job in data science, how to get the job and why commitment to collaboration is more important than competition.
The presentation will be followed by a Q&A session.
