Description
In the Standard Model (SM) charged fermion masses are induced via the Higgs mechanism. The strong hierarchy in masses is thus directly translated to hierarchy in the corresponding Higgs couplings. We begin by asking whether the origin of matter constituents is a fact or a speculation, and to what extent will the LHC be able to address this question directly. We then introduce a new proposal to probe the Higgs force using atomic physics with potentially sensitivity better than that of the LHC. It motivates us to briefly discuss the 750 GeV diphoton LHC excess as a new physics case. We show that the diphoton resonance can be studied, with possibly unprecedented precision, via the observable related to atomic physics mentioned above.
