Description
The observed matter-antimatter imbalance in the universe, and our failure to predict it, is one of the biggest unanswered puzzles in physics. The solution may be connected to CP violation in the lepton sector with what's called leptogenesis. We're a long way from testing leptogenesis models directly, but neutrino oscillation experiments, such as NOvA and T2K, can provide some information to move us forward. NOvA is a long-baseline experiment designed to measure numu to nue oscillations with the goal of searching for CP violation and determining the neutrino mass hierarchy. In this seminar, I will give an overview of the NOvA experiment and its goals and present first results from both numu disappearance and nue appearance measurements.
