Description
N-body simulations are a very important tool to study the non-linear evolution of cosmic structures and they can be used to compare theoretical results with current and future observations. A drawback is that a realistic N-body simulation is computationally expensive and it does not allow to create a sufficient amount of halo mock catalogues necessary to statistical studies. In this talk, I will present alternative and faster methods that approximate the dark matter field in terms of halos. In particular, I will concentrate on numerical and analytical techniques designed to this purpose and show their limitations to weak lensing studies.
