Description

A Multi-Reflection Time Of Flight Mass Spectrometer (MRTOFMS) is an electrostatic ion beam trap used for fast mass measurement and mass separation. Mass-resolving power above 10E5 can be reached within a few milliseconds or less, which makes this technique ideal for on-line mass separation, even for short lived nuclei. A MRTOFMS is currently studied for the S3 collaboration (Super Separator Spectrometer) dedicated to the study of very heavy and super heavy nuclei.
