Description
Understanding charmonium production in hadron collisions is an important
challenge to QCD. A rewiew will be presented of the existing theoretical
models, with a focus on recent developments of calculations at NLO
in nonrelativistic QCD and global fits to long-distance matrix elements.
Measurements at the LHC, and in particular with the data collected by the
CMS experiment in 2010-2011, will be discussed, highlighting the experimental
techniques and data analysis strategies. These measurements include prompt
and non-prompt charmonium cross-sections, bottomonium cross-sections,
production of P-wave states and exotic charmonia.
