DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Andrew Stuchbery\n\nAtomic nuclei are self-organizin
g many-body quantum systems that can manifest both single-particle and co
llective excitations. This talk will examine how collective excitations in
nuclei develop away from closed shells based on insights gained from elec
tromagnetic observables\, especially magnetic moments. The nature of “pr
ecollective” nuclei will be discussed. In some parts of the nuclear land
scape emerging collectivity occurs alongside shape coexistence\, the regio
n around 40Ca being a primary example. The possibility that similar shape
coexistence might occur in 100Sn and possible implications for the nuclear
moments of neighboring nuclei will be explored. \n\nhttps://indico.in2p3.
