Martino : Are EOSC resources the Nodes ?
Alberto : yes the Nodes and resources developed in the EOSC Federation.
Mark: The funded projects seem to be different from the current OSCARs project, more Science related.
Alberto: Yes it is a bit different. Projects should be directly linked to scientific projects. Not just technical development for a specific service, you have to be linked to a scientific project. If you see the text, there are a lot of activities mentioned, not directly linked to scientific results. It’s a bit misleading, but maybe we can think of how it would be reflected in the cascading grant calls.
Mark: I’m thinking of how to encourage our community to be part of this project: in the WPs or in the cascading grants.
Alberto: I would leave main technical developments and things related to services in the consolidation part, taking into account the limited budget.
Caterina: What we want to be done within our community should be done in the consolidation part because the cascading grant will have a lot of competition.
Giovanni: I think that we can take a double approach. If we put all our effort into the consolidation, it means that we have to choose exactly what we want to do. We can also organise a more robust and harmonised way to apply to cascading grants. We could coordinate in ESCAPE who applies to make sure we work for the collaboration.
Matthias: The text has a lot of related to development. The services in EOSC are very limited and we need a lot of help to input our catalogue into EOSC. It should contribute more resources to help onboarding into EOSC.
Alberto: the cascading grant mechanism is still being discussed. All these inputs are precious to make sure that the projects are of use to our community.
Kay: 3.3 is getting the point that we already had: we need a way to integrate the results into the current Federation, as OSCARS 1 should do. The calls should really be based around science.
Caterina: Is it to late to integrate the OSCARS 1 activities? Is it worth it?
Kay: It is worth to try in principle.
Alberto: This point was also made at the OSCARS AGM. I asked, for instance, projects related to the development of software to link with the OSSR working group. Maybe we can set up a dedicated meeting for this. We have to improve the connection with the nodes and I think this is what WP3 should do.
Mark: We haven’t had the opportunity to add astronomy into some aspects yet into this proposal. On WP3 we need an EOSC compatible virtual observatory registry with other domains like planetary science, solar physics... We think we can do this and it would be a significant contribution. About training and CC, the modernisation of the standards, we could in WP4 want to have like astro-CC in some form. For scientific training we want to integrate some of the schools we are running.
Giovanni: If you want me to do something, I’m happy to do it. But the consolidation priorities are mostly done. However, a bunch of RIs are not yet in the loop, or at least have not given any inputs.
Martino: about the hosting of a VRE. I attended a meeting about the EOSC EU Nodes. This node will be there to support other nodes. It is essentially a computing Node. They said the ESCAPE VRE will be hosted at the EOSC EU Node because of th eCERN node.
Giovanni: The hosting, a bit controversial, is not discussed yet in the document. There should be a VRE per node.
Martino: Does it mean if there is an ESCAPE VRE, there would have to be an ESCAPE Node.
Giovanni: the current ESCAPE VRE is in the EOSC EU Node
