DESCRIPTION:Speakers: Marek Ploszajczak (GANIL)\n\nSchool description\nIn
recent years\, progress in microscopic approaches to solving the nuclear m
any-body problem has been rapid\, for both nuclear structure and reactions
. Notably\, significant advances have been made in the treatment of contin
uum couplings\, which is essential for describing weakly-bound and unbound
states in exotic nuclei. These methods should form part of the core curri
culum for all physicists working in nuclear theory and experiment.\nThe co
urse aims at teaching modern theoretical approaches that are used in studi
es of weakly-bound and unbound quantum many-body systems. The theoretical
concepts\, which will be explained using examples of the atomic nucleus\,
can be applied in any mesoscopic system. This course will be of interest t
o advanced Master's students\, PhD students\, and junior postdoctoral rese
archers studying the physics of weakly-bound or unbound nuclear states.\nT
he duration of the course is three weeks\, with an expected attendance of
 20-25 students. To accommodate Master's students\, in particular\, those f
rom local programs at the University of Caen\, the first week will primari
ly feature introductory lectures that provide essential background knowled
ge.\nThe school is free (no fee)\, and both lodging and meals will be prov
ided to all participants.\nTopics covered\n\n\nPhenomenology of nuclei as
open quantum systems\nGeneral properties of resonances\nBasic concepts of
scattering theory\nOverview of nuclear decays and related processes\nConti
nuum in nuclear Density Functional Theory\nReal-energy continuum Shell Mod

 reactions\nTime-dependent approaches\nExamples of continuum shell-model ap
plications\nUniform complex scaling method\nFrom few- to many-body resonan
 ces\nNear-threshold physics and low-energy universality\nExamples of conti
 nuum shell-model applications\n\n\nMain lecturers\n\nKevin Fossez\, Florid

tended deadline is now April. 15\, 2026. Please\, use the "Application" ta
b on the left to apply.\nYou will be required to provide a CV\, a motivati
on letter\, and the email address of your supervisor to request a letter o
f recommendation. Please do not send a recommendation letter unless we con
tact you. Applicants from U.S. institutions have the option to request tra
vel support.\nFor successful participation in this course\, students are e
xpected to have a working proficiency in quantum mechanics at the graduat
e level. This encompasses a solid understanding of essential physics conce
pts and mathematical physics tools\, including but not limited to:\n\nThe
concept of the wave function\nSchrödinger equation\nSpin and Hilbert spa
 ces\nComplex variables\nFourier transform\nLinear algebra\nFundamental asp
ects of quantum many-body problems\n\nFurthermore\, students should posses
s practical skills in scientific computing. Familiarity with programming l
 anguages commonly used in the field\, such as Fortran\, C/C++\, Python\, o
r Julia\, is necessary. While students may opt to use other programming la
nguages\, it should be noted that assistance from the teaching staff might
  be more limited in those cases.\n\n\nSponsors / Partners\n \n\nhttps
