Description
Morphology of the Supercluster - Void Network Structure in the Universe. Sergei F. Shandarin University of Kansas, Lawrence Kansas, USA CITA, Toronto, Canada Modern redshift surveys like 2dF and SDSS have revealed the complex geometrical patterns in the spatial distribution of galaxies that are often collectively referred to as large-scale structure or cosmic web. Similar structures have been observed in cosmological N-body simulations. The theoretical explanation of the origin of these structures remain sketchy and presents a challenge for theory. I will discuss the formation of the supercluster - voids network in the universe. I will especially concentrate on morphological ie geometrical and topological statistical measures that can quantify the mass and galaxy distributions in space. The modern advances in computational geometry make this direction of research particularly interesting and promising. Material :
