Nicola Tamanini - Science synergies between ground- and space-based gravitational wave observatories

Description

Since 2015 gravitational waves have been observed with the LIGO-Virgo network of ground-based detectors, providing new outstanding insights in astrophysics, cosmology and fundamental physics. Future gravitational-wave detectors, which are currently under design both on the ground (targeting the kHz range of frequencies) and in space (targeting lower frequencies), will dramatically expand the quantity and quality of these observations. In this talk I will discuss the scientific potential arising from combining gravitational wave observations from both ground- and spaced-based detectors. In particular I will highlight the scientific questions in astrophysics, cosmology and fundamental physics which are expected to greatly benefit from such combined observations.
