September 14, 2022 marks the seventh anniversary of the first direct observation of gravitational waves. After three observing runs, almost a hundred transient gravitational-wave signals have been discovered and characterized, and found to be consistent with being produced by compact binary mergers. This talk will give an overview of how gravitational-wave observations work, review what the present observations taught us, and what we expect in the next couple years.
