Description
With access to an available dataset now 100 times larger then the one needed to discover the top quark, top physics has become a major player of the Tevatron programme. The precision measurement of its mass points to the mass of the Higgs boson, the physical manifestation of the standard model explanation for electroweak symmetry breaking. The observation of single-top production gives access to electroweak production of the heaviest quark, and provides a stepping stone to Higgs boson production in the same topology. Plenty of new physics scenarios can be probed directly up to the TeV scale in the signatures contained top quarks. I will highlight the richness of the top physics program at the CDF experiment, and explain how it will be guide us into the multi-TeV scale explorable with the LHC collider.
