RESCHEDULED: Loop quantum gravity: from discrete spacetime to gravitational waves

par Simone Speziale (CPT Marseille, CNRS)

Europe/Paris
Description

I will briefly review some of the key properties of general relativity
that make its quantization so unlike the other fundamental forces. I
will explain how the approach known as loop quantum gravity faces this
challenge, and give a pedagogical introduction to the main ideas
behind it. The resulting scenario of a quantum and discrete spacetime
has already led to a broad phenomenology targeting observations from
primordial cosmology and black holes. I will then describe more recent
work, which explores the consequences that some of the loop quantum
gravity assumptions have in the structure of gravitational waves, and
which could potentially open new paths to phenomenology.
