Dark Matter Searches in using Ionization Signal in XENON1T

Description

Dual phase Liquid Xenon TPCs have done much to push the sensitivity bounds for detection of GeV-mass WIMP interacting with nucleons.

Traditional searches in these parameter spaces have excluded large parameter spaces in the region above 10 GeV WIMP masses. Below this mass, threshold affects become limiting factors in dark matter searches using combined scintillation-ionization signal to reconstruct events. By dropping the requirement that an ionization signal be observed it is possible to increase the sensitivity bounds of these detectors below this threshold. I will discuss recent ionization only dark matter searches with XENON1T, as well as new backgrounds faced in this regime, and some of the possible interesting physics that can be gleaned from studies of those backgrounds themselves.
