Backreacting quantum fields on de Sitter space — lessons from gauge-gravity duality

The stability of de Sitter space is a question of high phenomenological importance that has received renewed interest in the context of recent swampland conjectures. Despite impressive progress over the years, there are still open questions, in particular regarding the stability of de Sitter space in the presence of massless particles. Perturbative methods seem insufficient to give a conclusive answer and new theoretical tools are needed. Here I will present how gauge-gravity duality can be employed to study backreaction effects of quantum fields on de Sitter space. After reviewing the theoretical background I will show how strongly interacting large-N quantum field theories backreact on de Sitter space.
