LiteBIRD is a next-generation cosmic microwave background satellite mission, which has been down-selected by JAXA as its Strategic Large Mission scheduled for launch in 2027.

LiteBIRD will deliver unrivalled data on the polarized CMB anisotropies on intermediate and large angular scales providing unique access to rich, potentially revolutionary science both alone, and in combination with planned sub-orbital CMB experiments. For years to come this will permit LiteBIRD to lead the way in studies of the physics of the very early Universe, extending further the field of observational cosmology, and producing a data set of unique legacy. LiteBIRD will furthermore enable a broad range of ancillary science covering a frequency range in polarization with sensitivity at large scales more than 50 times better than Planck.

LiteBIRD will consist of 4700 multichroic TES detectors (provided by NASA), observing in 15 frequency bands from 34 GHz to 448 GHz with resolutions ranging from 70’ to 10’ targeting the large scale millimeter sky. Its design includes three telescopes with polarization modulation in order to mitigate systematic effects. LiteBIRD will have the capacity to detect a signature of primordial gravitational waves with an amplitude relative to that of density perturbations as low as r = 0.001 when accounting for systematics, foreground residuals and noise. With phase-A-level support from CNES, the French team has become a major player on the European and global project level. As a consequence, CNES is studying the option of taking the lead of the mid- and high-frequency telescopes with the participation of ESA and European partners.

In this context the LiteBIRD-France team would like to propose a day-long informational meeting about the project, its science objectives and the current status.

The meeting will take place in Paris at the APC Laboratory on July 10. A remote connection will also be available. We invite all the members of the cosmological community to attend however for the logistical reasons we ask that you register if you plan to participate either in person or remotely.

We hope to see many of you in early July in Paris !
