Description
Third generation quarks and in particular the heavy top quark, can be a privileged way to access physics beyond the Standard Model (BSM). Vector-like quarks, whose decays involve third-generation quarks, appear in BSM theories aiming at solving the hierarchy problem, and BSM models also predict new resonances that decay preferably into heavy quarks. The seminar will summarise the current reach and perspectives of direct searches for these signals and the complementary with indirect searches using rare events in the top-quark sector. Some other crucial elements, such as the object reconstruction and identification of top quarks and the understanding of the SM top quark production will also be discussed.
